We are continuing our mission in Colonet by building additional homes, as well as supporting the annual Christmas party. Last year, a church in La Mesa took a number of their parishioners to Colonet to stage an elaborate, very festive all-community party that was set up by Frances Jackson....and it proved to be a huge success. Much of the happiness was due to the many presents that we were able to gather from our supporting churches, and we are hoping to do the same this year.
One problem is that Frances and the La Mesa Church are going to hold this year's party very early----Saturday, December 2.
This means that we are going to have to launch the campaign almost immediately in order to give me time to transport the presents to Mexico before the 2nd. I'm going to suggest that we set the deadline for the presents on Sunday November 26. I will pick up presents that day at any participating church......starting with Paradise at about noon., moving south and ending up at Los Gatos sometime in the evening of the 26th. A sort of Santa Claus-like expedition in reverse: I will be collecting rather than distributing.
I would suggest the same guidelines as before:
- Try to keep the presents of similar value, say $10-$12.
- Keep the presents no larger than a shoe box, so that we can manage to fit them into the truck!
- Wrap the presents and indicate on the outside of the wrapping....either Boy or Girl.....with the age range of the intended recipient.
