It’s quiet now at Shasta Camp, a busy year now ending that was filled with songs, the happy shouts of youngsters, and the star-gazers seeing the heavens in a way that can’t be done near bright city lights.. Life has gone on in spite of the ramshackle appearance of the retreat center building after at severe “100-Year snowstorm” last winter that collapsed the structure and ruined approximately $200,000 worth of materials and labor.
There is however, good news about the future of the building. It will be rebuilt. The project was fully insured and will soon go to bid to supply both contractor and materials to restore it to the point when the storm struck. Soon, the Shasta Camp Committee will meet to consider certain revisions to the building design so that a disaster similar to that of Winter 2006 will not recur.
Grant applications will continue and one granting organization has requested an on-sight inspection with Pastor Thom Brackney some time this month. Please keep Shasta Camp, the Camp Committee and Camp Host Paul Armentrout in your prayers as we near the coming year.

Colusa UMC Celebrates 150th Anniversary
“We are celebrating 150 years of Methodism in Colusa this fall. Elizabeth Yerxa and Lori Rodrigues are working on a play as part of the celebration. It is an updated version of a play which was performed in 1956 for Trinity’s 100th anniversary. The new play was scheduled for Saturday, October 21st in the evening. On Sunday morning the celebration will be during our worship service. Included in that celebration was the celebration of the completion of our 40 Days of Community Campaign.
“When I was in Seminary, Methodist history came alive for me in a new way. I discovered a certain Bishop Spangenberg, visiting North Carolina, had brought some of my ancestors into membership in the Bethania Moravian Church in the 1760’s. He was a contemporary of John Wesley, Methodism’s founder. Bishop Spangenberg had an ongoing theological debate with Wesley for many years.
“We all have a history. History ties us to our past and gives us insight on the events of the present. Our very own Trinity United Methodist Church has a colorful history. As we learn about those who have had a part in establishing Methodism in Colusa, we come to understand the expectations our forebears had for this congregation. We learn the Methodists who came before us had a passion and a mission to bring the Word of God and the love of God into Colusa County.
“We have much for which we can be thankful and much to celebrate. May God grand Trinity United Methodist Church many more years of significant in and around Colusa.”
Blessings, Pastor Karen Watson Colusa-Trinity UMC
