Solar ovens provided the main method of cooking for a fund-raiser luncheon held recently at Trinity UMC-Chico. Leslie Johnson and Mavis McGillis of Trinity planned the event to encourage donations to purchase ovens in areas of Africa where cooking fuels are scarce. Approximately $800 was raised to purchase “SOS Sport Solar Ovens, which were designed for developing countries to help meet the need of an estimated 2.4 billion people who lack adequate fuel to simply cook their meals. Most of these people live near the equator and have abundant sunshine.
The Mission of the Solar Oven Society –a project of Persons Helping People, a 501 © (3) non-profit organization is to provide low-cost, effective, durable, attractive solar ovens, education, and training to help families in sun-rich, fuel-poor countries improve their health, time, nutritional, financial, and environmental resources.”
