| David and Lorene Persons are United Methodist missionaries of the General Board of Global Ministries serving in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in Mulungwishi. Dave is dean and professor of Biblical studies and missions at the Faculte Methodiste de Theologie in Mulungwishi, Katanga Province. He is involved with training Congolese pastors for two annual conferences.The son of missionaries, David was born in Nashville, TN, and raised in Zaire (now the DRC) where his parents spent their mission careers. David is married to Lorene Bartlett Persons, who is also a GBGM missionary serving in Mulungwishi. They have three children: Michelle, Andrew and Amber Joy. Lorene Persons (Lori) serves as director on the Women’s school of the Faculte Methodiste Theologie in Mulungwishi, Katange in the DRC. She teaches courses in English, nutrition and sewing and works with the wives of the student pastors. Lori has been a missionary at Mulungwishi since 1979. Of her call to mission, she says, “Relating to and being with people in all of life’s situations and trying to communicate about Jesus and life in his kingdom is what missions is all about. Also trying to maintain an open family life that reveals Jesus’ love can minister to the needs of others, too.” The Missionary Code for David Persons is 07770008Z and for Lorene Persons 07709Z, in order to designate “Covenant Relationship” missionary salary support.
