September is "Open House" Month
Igniting Ministry, United Methodism’s national television and welcoming campaign, has designated September as “Open House Month” for The United Methodist Church, and a time for Sunday school classes to reach out for new members.

(L to R) June rothe-Barneson, editor, Paul Dirdak, Deputy General Secretary of UMCOR, Shannon King, Chair of Trinity-Chico Igniting Ministries.

Some suggestions for local churches:

  • Select a date in September to celebrate Open House Month and get that date on church calendar.
  • Plan the open house to introduce members of the congregation and community to the Sunday school classes and small groups available.
  • Celebrate the ministry of Christian education with resources available at www.gbod.org/education

Mission DVD Available
A new stewardship DVD focuses on growing mission minded churches. Available online at cnumc.org, it will help churches look differently at the world of mission, apportionments and growth.

The Rev. Paul Dirdak, Deputy General Secretary of UMCOR, and leader of the presentation held last February, believes that “money is not a commodity, but a relationship and that churches with failing finances may be in the situation due to failed relationships brought on by lack of confidence.”
